EU wheat futures ends 2009 slightly lower
|
 |
European Union wheat futures closed slightly lower in the final trading session of 2009, showing a loss of 4.6 percent overall for a year marked by swelling global supply and stiff export competition. January futures closed at 131 euros in a shortened session on Thursday — leaving the continuous front-month reference for wheat prices down nearly 5 percent over 2009. Trade was thin and illiquid as most operators and grain cooperatives were away for the New Year holidays, with the few European market players present taking direction from Chicago and a weaker dollar. The market will be closed on Friday. reuters
